Sluis

In the town of Sluis shops are open 7 days a week! But Sluis itself has more to offer: the most striking example definitely being the Belfort (built in 1390) near the town hall. Sluis is one of the few Dutch cities with a typically Flemish architecture. At regular intervals you can hear the chimes of the "Jantje van Sluis" tower signalling the time..

Sluis is especially famous for its shops; take a stroll along the numerous shop windows, and visit the shops of your liking. While at it, don't forget to pay a visit to the nice terraces and pubs of Sluis. Or perhaps enjoy some Flemish chips. The most well-known resident from Sluis was without any doubt Johan Hendrik van Dale, the creator of the famous van Dale dictionary.
